I was initially seen by a physiotherapist & Mr Hussain in an outpatient clinic where my symptoms were discussed in conjunction with MRI results. Mr Hussain advised that surgery, i.e. an L3/L4 decompression & L4/L5 decompression, would be the only option to relieve the symptoms experienced. I was admitted to the ward the night before surgery to secure a bed & on the morning of surgery, Mr Hussain came to see me. He explained the sequence of events, asked if I was okay & said he would see me in theatre. It was nice to be reassured by him on the day of surgery as was feeling apprehensive but at the same time relieved that my symptoms would soon be resolved. It was a long day as wasn't taken to theatre until the afternoon and didn't get back on to the ward until 2000hrs. The instant I awoke, I remember that the pain had gone. I was given paracetamol in hospital but I declined any analgesia to go home with as don't like taking tablets unnecessarily. A couple of days post surgery I had a reaction to the dressing & probably due to the inflammatory response to surgery, my back began to swell & weep around the surgical site. I was in extreme pain and paracetamol was ineffective. I was advised at the hospital that should I need pain relief, I should consult my gp. Reluctantly I did & was told that over the counter analgesia should suffice. I had already tried this & would not have consulted them had I not have needed their help. I was highly disgusted by their response & felt let down! Mr Hussain & his team were absolutely brilliant throughout & more than made up for my gp's indifference. I cannot recommend them highly enough & would not hesitate in recommending Mr Hussain & his team for anyone requiring this kind of surgery in the future.

He is an exceptional surgeon. All the way through he made me feel at ease. Very honest from start to finish on what my outcome would be. I never expected the outcome that I have got at the end of my surgery. For about a year I couldn't walk from beyond the house, but now I am slowly getting around the shops again. I have also regained the feeling in my arm which I had lost. I would like to thank Mr Hussain, his team and all the staff on Ward 4. Mrs C I Brent Surgery 02/08/18
